Following rumors that Johnny Depp would be axed as ‘Jack Sparrow’ for a possible reboot of the famous Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Disney’s Chief of Film Production Sean Bailey has confirmed that the studio will indeed be proceeding, Depp-free.
In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Bailey responded that Disney is keen to “bring in a new energy and vitality” when asked if the franchise could endure without Depp.
The entertainment company has invited Deadpool and Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to build the script, which will hopefully give the ailing franchise a “kick in the pants.”
Though some might be looking forward to a fresh swashbuckling lead, other diehard Depp fans aren’t as thrilled.
Twitter user Maisei Gibbs responded, “If Pirates of the Caribbean films are made and Johnny Depp is not in the film, I will not watch it. Johnny Depp IS Pirates of the Caribbean.”
If Pirates of the Caribbean films are made and Johnny Depp is not in the film, I will not watch it. Johnny Depp IS pirates of the Caribbean. End of.
