To remember George H.W. Bush, Google drew out the blue, red, yellow, and green from its logo on 5 October 2018, the day of the former US president’s funeral.
Google regularly updates its colorful wordmark to commemorate special events. To mourn Bush’s death, it ditched all bells and whistles and chose to go grayscale instead.
Clicking on the monochromatic logo on its US homepage would lead visitors to a results page containing information about the 41st president, who passed on at the age of 94 on 30 November.
World leaders flew in to attend Bush’s funeral on Wednesday, and his son, 43rd president George W Bush, delivered an eulogy to his father.
“Dad was always busy—a man in constant motion—but never too busy to share his love of life with those around him…” the late president’s son reflected. “And once confined to a wheelchair, he seemed happiest sitting in his favorite perch on the back porch at Walker’s Point contemplating the majesty of the Atlantic. The horizons he saw were bright and hopeful. He was a genuinely optimistic man…”
“We’re going to miss you. Your decency, sincerity, and kind soul will stay with us forever. So, through our tears, let us see the blessings of knowing and loving you—a great and noble man, and the best father a son or daughter could have.”
