According to Google, here is how to land yourself an employee pass at the tech giant.
Once you’re equipped with the required skills, Google has offered tips and suggestions on how to secure a job in its company. If you are keen, you should find out which job opening that interests you, followed by making yourself “stand out.”
Applicants can do so by focusing on their resume and according to Google, they should highlight their achievements, describe their skills and explain the projects they have worked or managed by keeping it short and relevant.
You should also keep in mind the qualifications that are included in the job description as this eases Google’s recruiters to match your resume to the job opening. Once you’ve been shortlisted for an interview, you should prepare yourself to speak to a peer or a manager for a “phone/hangout interview.”
This preliminary discussions will last between 30 to 60 minutes, and applicants will be tested on “behavioral, hypothetical or case-based questions.” Those who applied for a software engineering role could go through a much rigorous interview, as they have to put on a hands-free headset while writing “20-30 lines of code” in a Google doc.
If you have been called in for an onsite interview, prepare to speak to four Googlers where they will test you on “general cognitive ability, leadership, role-related knowledge and Googleyness.”
To better prepare, Google suggests its interviewees to “predict the future” by jotting down top 20 questions of what they think they might be asked. If you can’t think of any, try googling “most common interview questions” and write down potential answers to each question.
This is essential as Google claims you need to have a different yet strong answer for each question as “the first interviewer might not like” your response.
Applicants should also practice and prepare to answer questions relating to thought process, team leadership, as well as the ability to rectify a problem.
Fortunately, Google has removed the brain-teasers from its interviews as it didn’t predict how well potential employees would carry out their roles.
After you have aced your interviews, your application process will take several weeks to process and reviewed by hiring committees at different levels.
